Pandora's Casket

Yesterday there was an incident on our town here in Montpelier. Apparently a dog had gotten out of its yard and wandered away.

Now, this dog was a family dog. Raised around little children, cats and you name it. The son, who is the owner is away right now serving in the Air Force. There had not ever been any problems with this young dog ever.

A school bus that had church children on it arrived and I guess started unloading. The dog seeing the children ran up. NOT in aggression but for attention as they were children probably around the same age as the dog was familiar with. The bus driver calls the police. Police arrive

The uniformed still in training officer says the dog showed aggressive behavior. The solution? He shot and killed a family pet. One of the witnesses there said the dog was barking at him. Is that aggression or is it not a warning that the dog was scared and giving a warning.

The family is then notified of the pet being killed, they lived right around the corner. The police officer states while the people are crying then the dog should have been locked up in the yard.

The family posted pictures of the dog with the children and also with the other dog it was raised with lying next to the dead body in mourning.

Now, the dog was a young pit bull. In my own opinion the dog was shot and killed because the police officer saw a pit bull, was scared and killed it. This is cold blooded murder in my eyes. Of course the community will be torn in half but at the end of the day the situation is and was wrong on so many levels.

Killing an animal due to barking? Did the dog charge at you, bite you or threaten you in any dangerous way or is it that it was killed out of plain fear of the breed?

We sat and talked about it and it should serve as warning not only for those that own pit bulls here in town but ANY large dog. What if your dog got off the tether and ran off only to be shot and killed because it was lost, scared and barking? How would you feel? I know that with Ruby she is a large black Shepard that does get off the tether every once and awhile and the thought of some rogue dog killing police person scares the hell out of me. It should scare all dog owners to know this.

Am I a pit bull fan? I have had a fear and respect for these dogs all my life. They are to much dog for me personally but I have in the past year regretted my lack of knowledge and prejudice about the breed. Any dog can be raised to be aggressive. It is NOT the breed it is those owners that raise them to be fighters.

It was not long ago that German Shepperd, Dobermans and a slew of other dogs were treated in the same manner. Pointing out all the bad incidents and mauling by the breeds overlooking the good behavior of the breeds.

Of course, this will play out that the police officer was in the right as who wants to go against authority in a small town? If he is in training he needs more training. What if that shot missed and went through someones home and killed a child or adult? That was not bravery to me it was pure cowardice.

My heart and sympathies goes out to the family for the loss of their family pet.

The Jamboree is coming up quickly here. Which means that John’s band will be performing on stage again this year. It is always so exciting to see his band play their new songs and of course the older ones also!

Kurt was on the look out for a melodica at guitar center for the past few months. Last I heard still no luck.

They still have a couple of months to locate what he is looking for and give him enough time to practice and put his touch on it.

This week looks to be a crazy busy one. I have to go into the green room and sort and pull things for the store. I really dislike that room so much. I do not think that there is anyone here that likes going into that room. Just has a feel that is off is all.

After that is to pick off where I left off from last week in re-arranging the downstairs. Really a big job to do and last week was just to cold to deal with it. This week though I need to get in there and get it all finished.

Last week was an odd weather week. We went from hot to super cold to an all out down pour of rain with thunder and lightening. It was just an odd week for weather.

This week looks like there will be more of the same weather coming our way! The good thing is that in case of a power outage I now have rechargeable aa batteries here to use in one of the flashlights. Always a life saver to have on hand! Nearly every room in the house has some type of flashlights or candles for those storms that knock our power out.

First we worry about frozen pipes and now starting to think about worrying about tornado season looming around the corner!

One of my friends has spent so much time looking for back pain relief. She has gone to more doctors than Carter has pills. Nothing has really alleviated the pain. Sometimes I tell her it’s like she is on a quest of sorts.

So the other day she was reading about traumeel which is an internal and topical homeopathic method in helping with backaches and other areas of pain. Once she started researching this she gathered all her information and off to her doctor she went. Wishing to find out the pro’s and con’s by her doctor.

Apparently she got the go ahead and will purchase this to see if it might help her. I guess in about three weeks or less I should get an email letting me know if it works or not. I hope it does help even a little as she is always and I mean always in pain.

Never know until you try. Right?

It’s funny how we had this huge snow storm covering nearly everything and anything that was outside and now just a few short days it has turned into mud, muck and well, dirty snow.

Right now there are some huge patches of snow but you can readily tell that all the lawns are just gross looking. I am thinking that by the end of the weekend all the snow should be gone. Then all we will be left with is the mud.

At least with snow you just track in water. Now when the kids or the animals come in the floors are covered in slippery mud.

This is the part (one of many really) that I do not like about the snow. The leaving behind of wet, muddy muck!

This weekend we will be at the store working off and on. Since it is warm out the store should be comfortable inside. Trevor, knowing that you can no longer smoke in or at least 8 feet from the door, has threatened to christen the store with one of his Avo cigars that he has.

Now, you may laugh but that young man just might follow through with what he is saying. I told him to keep it outside and all will be good. I really do not want the store to have a smoke filled aroma. Whether it is open to the public or not it’s just something that he should not do!

Hopefully he will forget what he had planned and all will be well.

Today has been a beautiful day! Warm and somewhat clear.

Colt and I actually was able to take a short walk and it felt so good to be out walking instead of stuck inside. Of course the remainder of the day has been catching up on paper work and cleaning (very little of that was done). Today was one of the first days that I was able to work in the office and not freeze my tail off.

The weekend is supposed to be higher temperatures so that means a lot will actually get done. Today feels more like Friday and I blame that on the weather!

Loving the warmth 

Today has been a beautiful day! Warm and somewhat clear.

Colt and I actually was able to take a short walk and it felt so good to be out walking instead of stuck inside. Loving the warmth 

Today was a pretty nice day, weather wise that is. For being overcast it actually did warm up much to my surprise.

The wind was chilly earlier today but other than that it turned out to be quiet nice.

Today was the first day of the time change and it really does suck. I think the funniest part was when Ruby, the Shepard gave me a look that would kill. 11 o’clock came which is the time that I take her out every day and I called her to go to the front door. She lifted her head looking at me like I was nuts. I knew something was up as when I was getting dressed she ignored me. Usually she knows by my getting dressed that it is close to going outside.

I guess the time change effected her as much as everyone else here.
