I had planned on having a relaxing, boring weekend but waking Friday I knew that this was not going to happen. First thing was having a few errands to do early in the morning that I had not expected. A generic lapel pin came to mind for an upcoming event for the members of the organization and for those that will participate in the event as well. It was agreed upon to purchase two sets of custom pins for the event. One set for members and the other set for participants to wear. It took around a month or so to locate a company that had the custom pins that we could all agree on. Luckily they did have a great stock on hand and it only took less than two weeks to arrive.

With the event over I can actually say that the pins went over well and we are planning on using another set for the Spring event that we are planning. Although this time we did find a company that offered a better price break while buying in bulk. Wish we had found this company earlier!

The pins are one of the best ideas that we came up with as many of the participants still wear them proudly showing that they did support the event!

I have been looking at personalized mailboxes a lot lately. With the way our weather is we have had to replace our mailbox twice. Once was a heavy duty (or so they said) plastic one while the other was just a metal one. The winds, snow and rain storms wreck havoc with them. You attach these to your rain gutter and the chain material guides the rain downward to the ground or whatever it is you want to hold the water in. Instead of having just a constant flow of dripping or gushing as it can be from our gutters the rain chain turns this into something quite pretty to look at. Making it a nice addition for curb appeal.

I spent quiet a bit of time reading and looking at the pictures of these and was really amazed that there are really a lot of designs to choose from. It seems that the chains rain material is mostly copper or iron based to guard against rusting. You can choose from links, cups and they even have basins to catch the water into and help prevent soil erosion from the water beating down hard as it does at times.

I really liked the most of the Lotus and Koi designs a lot. But there were other designs that were equally as nice that would fit any style of house for either the front or the back yard area. Seeing these was really food for thought on putting that on the outside list of possibilities to purchase. Next year is the outdoor revamping so it might just be something to look further into.
